#HelenTudorFisk is my all time favourite representation of what it’s like being autistic in a workplace.
. Wear the same daggy (comfortable, loose fitting) clothes every day?
. Struggle to figure out office small talk?
. Avoid work social events?
. Miscommunications bc we take things literally?
. Don’t get other people’s humor & they don’t get ours?
. Get in trouble for plain speaking & calling out bullshirt?
. Comfortable in a familiar & clearly defined role?
. Master of a bounded field of expertise?
. Really good at the job & do all the work while everyone else faffs about playing politics?
. Unwavering sense of ethics?
. Hate getting out of our comfort zone?
. Perpetually bewildered?
All these things describe my career before I recognised I was autistic. I was stubborn, but it was HARD.
Thank you Kitty & Penny Flanagan for writing Helen & everyone concerned for bringing her to life.
Oh, & ABC? Your saying you didn’t want to produce the show bc the character is ‘too unlikeable’ reads as ‘no one likes autistics’. We see you.
This one is for us #ActuallyAutistic @actuallyautistic
