Paola Antonelli has a litmus test for worthy design. People often ask the Museum of Modern Art’s senior curator of architecture and design how she decides what to add to the museum’s collection, and she gives them simple instructions: “Close your eyes and think, If this object did not exist, would the world miss out?” she says. #designhistory #designbusines #MoMA #feedly fastcompany.com/91268843/moma-

I can't believe Photoshop is celebrating 35! When I first got into my undergraduate program in #GraphicDesign, one would go to design school to work on Print material. Photoshop was a "niche" software: you would edit your photos on it and then import them into other software (Freehand, PageMaker, CorelDraw, QuarkXPress). Then the web boom came, and you could not create websites without it! Happy birthday, Photoshop! #design #designhistory #photography #feedly dpreview.com/news/5807387805/a

Saul Steinberg’s March 29, 1976 New Yorker cover is a much-copied design classic. The composition became a ”meme” in the current sense, before the term was coined. I have wondered how many times it has been copied, so I was amused to learn that my partner Tiina Koivusalo at the age of 16 had drawn a version for the anniversary of the small Finnish village Sumiainen, under the direction of one Risto Korhonen. The source is even credited.
